All those who know me well-enough, knows that i don't watch soccer. (I do, in the past, during the era when Robbie Fowler was still in Liverpool FC, and when Singapore won in the Malaysian League, and won the Malaysia cup in 1994)...
But here i am, watching the telecast of yesterday's match. Germany against Italty. Partly coz there's no good program on other channels.
The good old feelings come back to me as i was watching the match. How i used to curse and swear when the team i supported lose a goal, how i cheered when it won, or scored. But right now, i am not supporting any teams, and i just cheer and jeer accordingly to the action. Mind you, its yesterday match somemore.
One change strike me. There seems to be more violent in the field. Shoving, pushing, arguements with the referee, even kung-fu style kicks, wrestling style punching, slamming do occur. One can argue, its the world cup after all, but i think that's not an excuse. If the referee is not there, there would be an ugly brawl happening, a free-for-all fight between the players.
Perhaps the brawl could spread to involve the fans of the country, and, there would be an ugly riot. It would firther spread to the 2 countries and guess what?? both the countries could end up declaring war on each other. All just because of a goddamm world cup match...
I know i am letting my imagination run wild, but a war is the last thing i want it to happen. (Maybe i am still a NSman).
As the match ended, i realised that my fears are unfounded... Both players from both team, going around, shaking hands with each other... but another thing is the despair of both germany team and their fans are really in a stark contrast with the fans and the team from Italy.
One fellow i really respect at that point of time is the germany coach. While some players are weeping, the coach is there, encouraging them, consoling them. The coach is feeling worst than them, but he cannot show it out. He cannot lash out at his players, coz they had tried their best.
Well, to the fans of germany, there's a bit of consolation for you... i think that germany jersey is still much better than Italy...
