Blogging

I read Kenny Sia latest blog entry with interest. http://www.kennysia.com/

He got invited to KL to give a presentation to secondary school kids on blogging. Wow!

Blogging is really the "in" thing with youngsters and adults, even aunties nowadays. I have to agree with it. I am blogging now, ain't it?

Blogging during lunch time

I can see blogs everywhere, in every special occasion, events. In the NDP website, there's even a page for blog battles!!

Even in Stomp website, there's a star blog page.

And it's true. Blogging does have a rippling effects. What you wrote may have some effects on the reader, be it positive and negative.

The trend is in. Blogging cannot be left out as a main "side dish" for websites issit? They even have books on blogging!!

So, what is blogging actually?

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weblog,%20Blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject such as food, politics, or local news; some function as more personal online diaries.

i would classified mine to be both, as a commentary (personnal views) of certain events, be it locally or global, domestic or in the eyes of the law, and as well as online diaries.

I used to have a habit of writing dairies, under the "enforcement" of my parents, who think that writing dairies "in chinese" would improve my understanding and the knowledge of that language. Alas, that habit only last a few weeks before my parents gave up on nagging me to write an entry before i hit the bed.
Mind map on blogging?!?!?!?!?

Anyway, my entrys everyday are the same. Wake up, brush teeth, go school, after school go home, do homework, watch TV, play, write diary and go sleep. (I am not taking the risk to pen down my thoughts on the diary, lest it compromise my secrets. One will never know who might be peeking into your dairies. Friends are okie, Worst if my parents peek into it. Blogs are different. My parents does not know how to surf the internet. Haha)

Even to the extend that i thought of photocopying one copy everyday as a new entry. I just ain't seems to have the interest and the energy to write dairies, as diary writing is alway before bed, i would rather sleep than write some stupid entries.

And now, people are using blogs to write about their daily lives. Just like a diary. Hmmm... Has the word "diary" become "soooo yesterday?" Does the kids of today know the meaning of "Diary?"

So, if you wanna know how's the other's life have been, just go read their blogs.

RTA encounter again

Was driving back home "peacefully" last night, when the peaceful drive was suddenly and rudely interrupted by a RTA.

2 motorbikes, a car and 2 casualties.

So i did my usual thing, stopped my vehicle, took out my first aid pouch, and walked towards the casualties.

The moment i stepped in, the ambulance came.

Helped the paramedic in covering the wounds, TOC and that's all. And there's a man wearing LTA's vest (possible from the road works site) asking me to shift my van during my treatments of a casualty, saying that he is not responsible if any vehicle slams into my van.

My van is stopped right in front of the road works (which covers 2 lanes, leaving a lane passable for traffic), which in my views, is not a traffic hazard. Morever, the EMAS had arrived and is blocking off the lanes further in front.

Turn's out that the paramedic knows EC and EG... what a small world...

And as per normal, the TP arrive last... Even after the EMAS arrived eariler. And the TP did something which EC had told me about, which i find it annoying and funny at the same time...

Shall not blog about it here.

English language

Someone just sent me this picture... (which i had begged her to sent to me...)

SUPER CHIO!!!!

==================================================

English language can be so fun sometimes.

Normally, you add in a "ing" to the things that you are currently doing in a one word answer. Like, when ppl are asking you: "What are you doing now?"

And you replied" Drinking",
"smoking"
"Resting" etc etc etc...

But what happens when you are taking a break?

I replied "breaking" in response to that question.

How fun-ing Englishing can be.

Transformers cartoon on TV

After the NDP duty, we got another duty. At East Coast Park, early in the morning.

I returned home in the afternoon, a very tired man. But when i switched on the TV, to kid's central, i got a shock. Tireness went away.

This is what i see...

OMG!!! IT'S THE TRANSFORMER CARTOON!!!

And it's on TV now!!! I was transformed back to my childhood days, watching the cartoon, be it tired or not. I used to wake up early to catch this cartoon.

And so, Transformer fans, you have an reason to wake up by afternoon in sunday to catch it.

Do not miss it!!!

NDP NE Show 1

Being tasked to drive the ambulance for that event.

JH giving the NDP briefing.

Couldn't be more boring. Parked at the trailer park at Marina south. A place where "dog does not shit, birds does not lay eggs" place. (Meaning its very deserted and isolated place).

And when NDP comes, those who went for NDP before should have memories about the food. Every year it's sponser by KFC and Pizza Hut. To those, you may think what delicious food we have, but to those who had went through it before, after each year, we do have phobia of eating KFC and Pizza!

The meals arrived soon after we arrived. We looked at it with tepidation. but surprised!! its this...

It's by SFI (Singapore Food Industrials). The best meal sponser of it all!!! Though it looks plain, but it's yummy!

And so we started to rot. Spending our time away talking cock, tell jokes, taking a nap. Till aircraft came.
That's the only piece of action that we got for NDP.
Setting sun.

Pretty soon, its night time.

It's dark. The street lamps are not switched on at the trailer park.

We were outside, feeding mosquitos. Waiting for the fireworks to start. And we were not waited in vain.

Woots!!! Beautiful!!!

Live free or die hard

Enjoy yet another movie, "live free or die hard" by Bruce Willis.

Another action film by Bruce Willis, who plays the character, John Mclane. It has been a long time since he came out with die hard 1, 2.

And if are expecting some changes in the movie coz of the age of Bruce Willis, you couldn't be more wrong. This movie is a action-packed almost from the beginning to the end.

And besides the actions, there's also the few funny parts of the film, mostly the dialogues between John Mclane and the villians, and his daughter.

Sure to enjoy the movie. Worth the money.

One of the best part of the movie (besides the fighter jet scene)

Damm solid!! Good movie!!

Global Warming II

And now, due to the seriousness of the problems (prob they cannot stand the heat anymore), some people, some where, will make use of the special numbers 07/07/07 to organise a 24-hour concert, across 7 continents, named "Live Earth".

It was organised to drive home the message of global warming and how could it kill the whole planet.

When i learn of this sometime back, my first reaction was: "such a big scale concert har? For what siah? Sure got better way to save this planet."

And apprently, some bands do share the same views as me.

Arctic Monkeys shiver at Live Earth 'hypocrisy'

Quoted from the website: "Especially when we're using enough power for 10 houses just for (stage) lighting. It'd be a bit hypocritical, And we're always jetting off on aeroplanes!"

Others have the same view:
Roger Daltrey, singer from 1970s British rock band The Who, told British newspaper The Sun in May that "the last thing the planet needs is a rock concert."

Anyway, just sit back and enjoy the concert, and think about global warming. (Mediacorp channel 5 is going to broadcast the Live Earth).

Global Warming

You see it everyday. In the papers, news and TV.

You heard it everyday. From the radio, the people sitting in the coffeeshop complaining about it.

You feel it everyday. From the intense heat that you are bitching about.

And yes, you complain about it everyday also!!

Yes. Global Warming. It is happening right here, right now. Actually, the problem had appeared for a long time, and only now, people (as in the general population) are getting aware of the problem.

And people/living organisms are suffering from it now.

Mean surface temperature anomalies during the period 1995 to 2004 with respect to the average temperatures from 1940 to 1980 (All datas are from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_warming)

Temperature has risen. Ice glaciers are melting.

And that means sea levels are rising, resulting in cities, villages being submerged in water.

Thinking about it. In the future, its not necessary to get a car driving licence. It's more important to get a boat driving licence, and there will be COE's imposed on the purchasing of boats.

Increasing global temperatures had been blamed on the greenhouse gases, typically consist of the carbon together with the oxygen. As in CO2 (carbon dioxide), CO (not Commanding Officer, but Carbon Monoxide). Why do they call it the greenhouse gases? I got no idea.

Recent increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2). The monthly CO2 measurements display small seasonal oscillations in an overall yearly uptrend; each year's maximum is reached during the northern hemisphere's late spring, and declines during the northern hemisphere growing season as plants remove some CO2 from the atmosphere

All living organisms needs oxygen for respiration, and gives out CO2. Plants will recycle the CO2 back to Oxygen in the process of photosynthesis. So, one can come to a conclusion that plants are very important in curbing the global warming issue.

So, start planting more plants now.

If we did not start doing anything now, what will happen to the future?

The geographic distribution of surface warming during the 21st century calculated by the HadCM3 climate model if a business as usual scenario is assumed for economic growth and greenhouse gas emissions. In this figure, the globally averaged warming corresponds to 3.0 °C (5.4 °F).

It's going to get only worst.

So, it's NATO time.

(NATO in this case IS NOT No Action, Talk Only, but it IS NOW ACT, TALK'S OVER. Quote taken from Saizan).

Funny signs

Imagine you are walking in a shopping mall in certain countries and you came across this sign.

When i saw this picture (sent via E mail from AP), i suddenly got lots of question marks.

Children left unattended will be sold to the circus?!?!?!

Is that a threat or will that be an idea? I can imagine some parents telling their kids. "You better behave or i will ignore you and let other ppl sell you to the circus."

Another picture..... I cannot help laughing out loud when i saw this...

Can i apply for the position of the security guard at that garden and restaurant?

Delivery

Okie folks. I am back.

Been busy being a delivery man for the last 3 days. That's why there's no update. No joke. Doing delivery is not fun. (except for the freedom part, where you no need to see your boss at all, and the "joy" of driving.)

10 siong things about delivery.

1) You need to consult the street directory frequently.

2) You must finish deliver something at a given time. Hence, you have a tendency to speed and beat the red lights.

3) Even you found the correct street and block, you must find the correct store. And sometimes, its over at the very end of the building.

4) You park without any coupons, and you fear summons. Same thing when you park at bus-stops and zig-zag lines, coz it's stupid to pay 50 cents or a dollar for 5 - 10 minutes parking.

5) Afternoon weather is hot.

6) Security guards chasing you away from the loading and unloading bays, coz they are reserved for the big lorries.

7) Loading and unloading bay is full. (there's a jam on the road lane leading to the loading and unloading bay at Jurong Point!!! Can you believe it?)

8) Missing the enterance to the loading and unloading bay, and you must make one big big round to go back again. Waste time.

9) Store personnal complaining coz you sent the goods just after 5pm. Even though they are opened till 9pm

10) Store personnal asking you to wait while your vehicle is parked at the zig zag line near to a police center.

Holiday

Today, 2nd July marks a holiday for almost half the population in Singapore.

School children and uniformed folks.

Today is the holiday for Youth day, and SAF (Singapore Armed Forces) day. And it's a holiday for the primary, secondary, JC students, as well as those in NS (National Service), regular men and women in the Singapore Armed Forces.

Morever, it's 40 years of NS in Singapore. As the website puts it, NSmen commemorate 40 years of National Service on July 1st

The sad thing is that i don't have a holiday today, even though i am a NSmen.

NDP CR2

When NDP is around the corner, Saturdays are always the most busy day in the week.

For all the personnal, all the way from the Organising Committee, to the road sweeper, that day is super tiring.

I went to the "family day" to view the rehersal last Sat, with a few of my friends, together with a few thousands more of the public.

And the weather is warm. Thankfully, it's not as hot as last Saturday. The walkways and the nearby shopping malls are full of people walking in the same direction.
All with the same purpose as us. Going into the Marina Stadium.

And from far, we spotted one of our friends. HL.

He looking damm stylo. Been ages since i last saw him.

And as the crowd passes by, the poor SAF men in uniform was "shouting" about the colours of the sectors that our tickets was assigned to.

"Green tickets holders walk further down. Blue tickets this way!" Shouted an army personnal.

"No tickets then go where?" i asked innocently.

In some way, i pity the men in green, having been in their boots in the year 2000.

And surprise. We had goodies bag, wrapped inside plastic bags.

Not the ideal bag. We just have to wait for the actual day to collect our goodies bag.

And into the stadium we go!!!

It was warm, alright. Even with the setting sun.

And 2 rows in front of us, i spotted a family of pirates. "WELCOME TO SINGAPORE, PIRATES!!"

Don't you think their "newspaper hats" looked like the hat on this fellow's head?

Anyway, that showed how warm the weather was at that point of time.

The pre-parade was quite boring. Only interesting thing is the free-fall by the Army parachute team.

It's a bird. No, its, a plane, no, IT'S A PARACHUTE TRAILING SMOKING.

As the saying goes, where's there smoke, there's fire. Is that poor guy burning up??

And the parade starts. The usual stuffs.

Fly past of Chinooks with the state flag during National Anthem, with AH-64D Apache attack Choppers as the escort.

Fly past of F-16 C/D falcon fighter jets in a starburst formation.

Firing of the arty pieces during the parade inspection.

As the arty guns are firing, i heard a kid start crying behind us. He is scared of the sudden sounds from the firing.

We turned back and reassuring the kid. He stopped crying. That kid is cute!! Reminds me of AM's nephew!!

Photo taken with permission of his parents, after he stopped crying.

And then the exciting part (the most exciting part of the NDP celebrations) started.

Boats from the Navy, and the Police Coast Guard gave an exciting show, doing doughnuts, Commandos display their head-down rappelling from the Benjamin Shears Bridge,

And suddenly, a Chinook Chopper desent to above the water surface. The crowd went "WOW!!!"

And still, it went lower.

You can see the Naval divers jumping out of the chopper into the sea, and the Naval boats doing a recovery of the divers.

Next the AH-64D Apache choppers suddenly appear. THey did some turns, salute and flew away.

Finally the SCDF came in with their vehicles. It's a showcase of the equipment.

And i would not be surprised if a submarine suddenly surfaced from the marina bay. Alas, i think too much. No submarine appeared.

After which, the shows started, and after the excitment just now, the shows are "boring". Only thing nice is the lighting effects.

We are waiting for the end of the celebrations, for the pyrotechnics (fireworks). Sadly to say, there's none.

And that's the end of the whole thing. Suddenly.

And suddenly, there's a mad rush for the crowd to leave the stadium. Some even leave before the scheduled departure of the President.

Knowing Singaporeans, we still relaxed in our seats, while the rest make a scramble rush to the exits.

And here's the results.

When we leave, the roads are not busy at all.

"Transformer"

What is transformer?

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transformer
A transformer is a device that transfers electrical energy from one circuit to another by magnetic coupling without requiring relative motion between its parts.

But hey!!! I ain't a electricial engineer. To me, transformer is some super great gadget that can change "transform" from a car / aircraft to a robot, with super intelligent powers, who can learn how to speak from the internet.

Yes, i am talking about transformers, the movie.

Transformers. More than meets the eye

I remember my childhood days action TV cartoons was focus on these few titles, Transformers and Mask.

Autobots.

The movie is darn good. Action non-stop. It's the type of movie that gets you eye-glued to the screen. It's the type of movie that you will be unwilling to leave when the guy besides you farted, coz you scared you will be missing lots of things.

The vehicles are fantestic!!! Darn solid, and chio too!

But a word of advice. This is not the movie that allows you to side to the extreme front or the extreme side. The actions are all too fast, and sitting at the front and the side will only cause headaches to you.

A must watch show. What are you waiting for when you are bored? GO!
